follow site I’m so excited to take my new VR (Virtual Reality) goggles out of their box… I bought them in China recently and I have been experimenting with the available online videos that have been created for ‘google cardboard’ and ‘oculus rift’ VR systems… to get a feel for the technology. I have noticed that there have been many advancements in this area in the fitness industry and in gaming etc… However there are some interesting projects emerging in the dance space – Australian choreographer Gideon Obarzanek recently created work with Sydney Dance Company and the Dance for Parkinson’s Disease organisation in the US have done some research around the ways it could assist sufferers of Parkinson’s Disease to receive dance instruction. After a little play with the technology (and with admittedly a very low-fi cheap version) I’m convinced that there is huge potential and future possibility for VR and dance.
This year I’ve decided to create my own experiment. I’m going to produce 1 video a day for 365 days…. So for 1 year – 1 video a day. I want to use it as a tool to reflect on the various parts of my practice as an artist. I also want to provide a glimpse of what it is like – a typical day-in-the-life of a dancer to give insight into the professional contemporary dance environment and the nature of this demanding art-form that I have devoted my career.
I’m really throwing myself in the deep end here in creating a video log or video diary. I have no preconceived ideas about what it will be – I will simply get stuck in and await for it to emerge in it’s own unique way…
